best vitamin d supplement to get rid of muscle weakness/muscle twitches?

Hello, had some blood work done a couple weeks and I was told that I have a slight increase in calcium which is because my vitamin d levels were low. I was told to get vitamin d3 2000 units. I picked up vitamin d3 that has code liver oil and helps with omega 3′s. I’ve been using this supplement for the past week and I haven’t seen any improvement. I have muscle weakness/aches/soreness through out my body and constant muscle twitches. Can someone give me some advice on a good vitamin d supplement to use? Thanks.

  1. Vitamin D will have little effect unless parts of your body are exposed to sunlight for at least a short time on a daily basis,

I don’t know just where you live but this can be a very dark time of year in certain parts of the Northern Hemisphere. If you can get outdoors with at least the face and arms exposed for an hour or so on a daily basis the Vitamin D will be activated and have some effect over a period of time.

Always use the best quality product you can locate. Fish oils are good. Salmon being probably the best. Vitamins are not drugs and need some time to have a noticeable effect.

Get as much sunshine as possible !!!!

  2. You may have low Vit. D levels and a slight increase in Ca, but your symptoms sound more like a Mg deficiency, something your MD would not have tested for normally.

Concentrate on the sunlight for your Vit. D needs, but consider adding a Cal/Mag supplement. If it is Mg, you should see results in a couple of days.

    Good luck.

  3. If you use a good fish oil with high levels of triglycerides. Will cost a bit more. Available under ‘Artic Oil”. Take 2 tablets 3 times a day is what we recommend. magnesium is essential for the calcium to metabolize properly A week isn’t enough to notice any difference allow 6-8 weeks and make sure you are drinking plenty of water ie 2 litres of good water a day is required as water is the transporter for the calcium and magnesium and oil along with providing the body with the ability to repair itself with ease.
Also I get patients to take a bath with 2 cups of epsom salts per bath. This will help take stiffness ,aches and soreness out of your body. Also you must get enough sunlight each day for vitamin D manufacture and don’t wear sunglasses as the eyes play an essential role in the conversion of Vitamin A and D.

  4. Cod liver oil is good, but it has a high amount of vitamin A, so I would tell someone to be careful with that supplement. Some say that we eat too much omega 6 fatty acids and that we need more omega 3 fatty acids in our diets. The cod liver oil will help with giving some healthy fat and allow the fat soluble vitamins A and D to absorb, but I would recommend that one take omega 3 and vitamin D3 supplements that are not from cod liver oil because of the high vitamin A content. One does not need sun to activate ingested vitamin D3. Any vitamin D3 supplement should give one what they need; a search on Yahoo or a visit to a health food store should allow one to find a good vitamin D3 supplement. I take about 2,000 I.U. a day (sometimes more), though the current recommended daily allowance (RDA) is 400 I.U. I feel that more people should take vitamin D3 supplementation. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption, but I recommend eating food or supplement sources that have all of the needed minerals. Sometimes it takes time to correct deficiencies in nutrients, but one should speak with a trained health professional if they have questions regarding health or nutrition concerns.

  5. alec has nailed it for you hun ……. take a chelated calcium powdered supplement ….. preferably organic and pump up your intake of calcium and magnesium rich foods like rocket, broccolli, celery, kale, chard and eat some raw nuts and seeds like almonds and brazil nuts and sunflower seeds …… all rich in calcium and magnesium.

other symptoms that will resolve doing this are headaches and migraines, insomnia, achy bones, irritaiblity and moodiness, constipation, unecessary nervous tension, bloating and cramping.
