  1. The previous reviewer should have done his/her research before punching it in. This supplement is just fine. In fact, I take a vitamin D supplement in ADDITION to this product. Yes, it is possible to take too much vitamin D, but the body easily can tolerate far more than the 100 I.U. provided with each capsule. Taking two thrice daily means an intake of only 600 I.U.’s.

Increased Vitamin D (and calcium) intake can decrease the incidence of colon, prostate and other cancers. If you’re bedridden, elderly and don’t get much sunlight, then you should increase your intake of vitamin D. If you’re dark-skinned, ditto. People with dark skin, in fact, are advised that an intake of 1,000 to 2,000 I.U. can be beneficial. It is estimated that African Americans likely would decrease their incidence of cancers by as much as 30 percent on such a regimen, all other things being equal.

My internist told me I had the lowest serum calcium and vitamin D levels she’d ever seen in a person, even in an elderly person, and advised me to get on a calcium supplement immediately. I had developed a slight limp in one leg, a weakness where the bone meets the hip socket — which I didn’t tell the doctor about. I realized it was likely due to bone loss. After a year on this supplement, along with an increased intake of dairy (of which I consumed almost none before my visit to the doctor) and a daily cod liver oil capsule supplement (an additional 400 I.U.’s of D), my limp disappeared after several months.

Vitamin D facilitates the body’s absorption/utilization of calcium . That’s why they’re often paired in supplements.

I have absolutely no complaints about this product. I’m glad to see it’s back in stock at at Amazon.com. Great product, and the three-pack offered here is a great buy. Don’t forget, though, that if you save NatureMade points, not to discard the outer box that each bottle comes in. As opposed to products sold by the individual bottle, the savings codes for the three-pack appear on the box tops — not on the bottles themselves.

  2. This calcium with other supplements product is not available in retail stores, but it is the best combination of calcium and other supplements available. It is worth going thru the trouble of ordering it online.

  3. As a calcium supplement taker of many years, this one should be called “Awesome Calcium.” Provides added benefits all without the nasty side effect that other calcium supplements cause.

  4. Why would anyone buy a bottle of vitamins without knowing the exact amount of each vitamin it contains? Is this a marketing ploy on their part, to get people to buy it and hope for the best? No way would I buy these.

  5. If you also take a Multi-Vitamin (mine is from the same manufacturer), this supplement has too much Vitamin D. Vitamin D is inexpensive to manufacture, so most Multi-Vitamin supplements contain 100% or more of the Daily Requirement. Many “enriched” foods, such as milk, bread, etc, also contain added Vitamin D. Vitamin D is not water-soluble, so as is the case with Vitamins A and E, it is possible to take too much. I’m not sure about the consequences of taking too much D (I’m not an expert, and would only be repeating hearsay). If you also take a daily Multi-Vitamin, you might want to do a bit of research before ordering this Calcium plus Vitamin D product. If you don’t take a Multi-Vitamin, this product is a good choice for your Calcium needs.
